Mark and Dylan at the top of Mt. Baldy, Philmont Scout ranch
Chloe and I are in Mark's truck, heading home. Mark drives to out of the way places, under the guise of "dropping something off", frustrating me*. The landscape is mostly dirt and industrial - think West Texas. What business do we have out here? I keep asking if we can go home. He stops being honest with me entirely and we end up at some Scout thing. Like Jamboree or Scout camp. Chloe and I are walking ahead of him at one point, while he trails further and further behind. Why are we here, I think. He is wearing a very bright Hawaiian shirt with shorts, so he should be easy to spot in the growing crowd. We end up losing him, so we hold hands and go through the crowds, getting very lost ourselves. The next time I see him he is wearing a bright yellow button down dress shirt and a light blue plaid pleated skirt (like a kilt). I also spy, for just a moment, a silver wedding ring on his right hand, then it disappears. He acts like he doesn't recognize me and is hiding something. At one point I turn to a chair that I think he is sitting in, and he disappears as I am pleading "Please let's go home, I want to leave!". Chloe walks away to find him. I give up and sit down on a couch, in front of a nature display of lizards. People are all around me, mostly old men. A man says to me "did you lose him? He's here somewhere". I say nothing but I am thinking "we weren't even supposed to be here, he didn't tell me anything about this". In my head, I am angry and plotting divorce. I am figuring out how I will find the truck and leave.
Man, I was mad about this one when I woke up!
*he did this once before, while we were on our way to take Grayson to dinner in San Marcos - I could have wrung his neck.
